Cat Cat village

From the center of Sa Pa town, following the road toward Fansipan mountain for about 3 km will reach Cat Cat village of San Sa Ho commune. Cat Cat is a habitat of Mong people, formed in the middle of the 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, the French discovered and chose Cat Cat as a resting place for officials. Here there is a beautiful waterfall which in French means CatScat. That's why the new version is called Cat Cat. Most of the households are located along the middle stone steps, some scattered on the slopes. Going about a few hundred meters up the steps to the center of Cat Cat, the convergence of three streams on the night is whispering Tien Sa stream, Vang stream and Silver stream with Cat Cat waterfall (also known as Tien Sa waterfall) roaring. , clear foam. Beside the waterfall, there are two suspension bridges, Si Bridge and A Luu Bridge, attracting a lot of tourists to admire and take photos.

Cat Cat village not only attracts tourists by wild and lyrical natural landscape but also by the unique and diverse traditional culture of Mong ethnic people. Mong people in Cat Cat build houses based on the mountainside, the rooftops are only a few dozen meters apart. Those are three-story houses with three-column trusses listed on a round or square slab, roofing of fokien wood planks and sawn timber walls. The house has 3 doors, the main door in the middle space, 2 side doors at the ends of the house. The main door is always closed, only open when the house has big things like weddings, funerals, Tet holidays. In the house, there is a worship hall, a floor to store food, a kitchen, a place to sleep and a reception place. The most unique is the rice pounding mortars designed by the Mong people very creatively, not using human power but using water power to produce pure white, fragrant rice. Around the house are luxuriant, green bamboo bushes and terraced fields.
