Genting, city in the clouds

 

Genting Highlands is less than 60 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur, about 45 minutes by car. This is a city located in the Titiwangsa mountain range, at an altitude of about 2,000m. Genting City on Genting plateau is a resort city built on an entertainment complex model. Hidden in the clouds, Genting is Malaysia's famous entertainment area like Las Vegas of this country with many casinos, amusement parks, resorts, golf courses and dining, shopping.

With an average temperature of 14 to 25 degrees Celsius, Genting plateau has a cool mild climate. Therefore, this is a regular weekend destination for domestic tourists and tourists from Singapore. The 3.4km Genting Cable Car will take you gently sliding over the dense rainforest for 11 minutes. There are also many indoor amusement parks such as First World Plaza, and outdoor amusement parks like Twentieth Century Fox Theme Park. 

With a series of five-star hotels with a capacity of thousands of people and restaurants with a rich menu of all tastes, Genting City becomes a perfect entertainment area, full of living facilities ... Lim Goh Tong started building the Genting Highlands resort casino in the 1960s and laid the first foundation to form a powerful Genting Group. Born in 1918 in Fujian province (China), when he arrived in Malaysia at the age of 19, Mr. Lim was just a loincloth ragged. 

He went through a difficult time, doing all kinds of jobs, from street vendors to buying bottles and scrap iron. Gradually building up, Lim's capital increased and he jumped into buying and selling machinery and equipment, gradually becoming a successful business contractor. 

At the age of approximately fifty, Lim came up with the bold idea of ​​turning the 6,000-hectare hill just full of forests in the state of Pahang into an entertainment complex - the Genting Highlands resort. The important step is to open a path to the resort located at an altitude of about 2,000m above the sea. 

Construction work began in 1965, at that time, many people laughed for him as crazy, he himself almost lost his life in a landslide. Finally, the road was formed and the casino was opened in 1971. At this time, it was clear that the strategic vision of Lim Goh Tong (Lam Ngo Dong).
