Cinderella

Cinderella là một ban nhạc rock của Hoa Kỳ. Họ bắt đầu nổi tiếng ở Philadelphia, Pennsylvania vào khoảng giữa những năm 1980s với một chuỗi các album đạt đĩa bạch kim và các đĩa đơn đạt thứ hạng cao và các bản video của các đĩa đơn đó được luân phiên xuất hiện trên MTV. Ban đầu họ nổi tiếng với tên tuổi của một ban nhạc glam metal và hard rock, nhưng sau họ chuyển sang dòng blues-rock. Vào khoảng giữa thập niên 1990, tiếng tăm của ban nhạc giảm dần do sự thay đổi trong thị hiếu âm nhạc lúc bấy giờ. Tính đến thời điểm này, ban nhạc đã bán được trên 18 triệu album trên toàn thế giới. Năm 1986 Cinderella đã là một band chơi heavy metal. Sở thích của họ lại là những kiểu tóc độc đáo, những bộ đồ da bó kín người và cả những trang phục bó chặt, những điệu nhảy với những tiếng “thịch” mà chúng ta được chứng kiến trong “Nightsongs”(86),”Long cold winter”(88) và tổng hợp 20 singles “Nobody’s fool”,”Don’t know what you got(til it’s gone)" được xem như là một sự tiến bộ trong thời gian tràn lan dòng nhạc metal,sản phẩm là Guns n Roses,Poison…Lời của Cinder cũng là một nghệ thuật,đầy tình cảm và tinh thần lạc quan yêu đời “Sometimes the sunshine through the rain” hay “…and now I think I’ll make a brand new start”.Chúng ta cũng không thể quên được những giai điệu ngọt ngào trong “Coming home” hay “Hard to find the words”.

Tạp chí Rolling Stone gọi Tom Keifer là một rocker tài năng và mạnh mẽ mà sự tự tin có thể so sánh với Mick Jagger (vocalist của The Rolling Stones). Tom Keifer cùng với Cinderella bị ảnh hưởng lớn từ trào lưu Rock n Roll vào giữa thập niên 80s. Trong khi phần lớn các nghệ sĩ hard rock/pop metal đã biến đổi vào hòa nhập vào trào lưu của Rock n Roll thế hệ thứ 3, Tom lại ưu thích những giai điệu blue rock mà anh đã từng say mê từ thuở nhỏ của Delta Blues. Tom nhanh chóng, với vai trò người viết nhạc và giọng ca chính của Cinderella, cho ra mắt album đầu tiên "Night Songs" với 1 loạt ca khúc hit như 'Nobody’s Fool', 'Shake Me', và 'Somebody Save Me'. Tom và các thành viên của ban nhạc đã thổi một luồng gió mới đem đến những thành công cho Cinderella và để lại những dấu ấn khó quên cũng như những ảnh hưởng của họ trong suốt hơn 1 thập kỷ.

Có lẽ chính vì định hướng theo dòng nhạc blue rock đã khiến cho Cinderella tạo ra sự khác biệt giữa họ với phần còn lại của thế giới pop metal. Tom cho ra đời album thứ 2 "Long Cold Winter" - một album giàu cảm xúc mà các fan của Hard Rock thế hệ của Tom khó mà cảm nhận hết được ý nghĩa sâu sắc của các ca khúc. Long Cold Winter phát hành năm 1988, được sáng tác trong suốt thời gian Tom đi tour lưu diễn cho Night Songs và nó lại mang đến thêm 1 loạt các ca khúc hit như 'Don't Know What You Got Till Its Gone', 'Gypsy Road', và 'Coming Home'. Trong một review về "Long Cold Winter", Rolling Stone đã nhận xét: "Đây là một album khác hắn với Night Songs, hoàn hảo đến không 1 tỳ vết và là một bước nhảy vọt của Cinderella". Kết quả là nó đã hoàn toàn làm lu mờ người anh em đi trước và biến Cinderella trờ thành một thế lực mới của Rock n Roll mà bất cứ rock fan nào cũng phải để tâm đến. Albums thứ 3 và có lẽ là album thành công nhất trong sự nghiệp của họ, "Heartbreak Station" đã ngay lập tức đạt được những thành quả tuyệt vời và đã trở thành một tuyệt tác đứng vào tầm những thu âm xuất sắc nhất của Rock n Roll. Heartbreak Station đã biến Cinderella vĩnh viễn đứng vào hàng ngũ của các tượng đài Rock, đặc biệt là ca khúc hit "Heartbreak Station". Theo AllMusicGuide.com, với album này Cinderella đã tạo ra một album có tính nghệ thuật cao nhất trong sự nghiệp của họ... và đồng thời Heartbreal Station cũng cho thấy Cinderella là 1 trong những ban pop metal tài năng nhất ở cuối thập niên 80s.

Heartbreak Station được đánh giá là album xuất sắc nhất của Hard Rock kể từ sau Appentite for Destruction (Guns n Roses). Album này không nhưng là bằng chứng khẳng định tài năng sáng tác của Tom Keifer mà còn đưa các thành viên của Cinderella lên một vi thế cao hơn trong suốt chặng đường theo đuổi dòng blue rock để có thể sánh ngang với các bật tiền bối trong quá khứ như Bad Company, Humble Pie và Led Zep. Năm 1991, các ca khúc của Tom Keifer và Cinderella đã chiếm được cảm tình của hàng triệu rock fans khắp thế giới (chính xác là con số 14 triệu album mà họ đã bán được) và cũng là ban nhạc Hard Rock theo phong cách blue duy nhất của thập niên 80s.Khi mà Tom đang trên đỉnh thành công với Heartbreak Station thì cũng là lúc những bất hạnh bất ngờ xảy ra với anh vào kỳ nghỉ giữa Mỹ và Nhật trong thời gian Cinderella đi tour Heartbreak Station. Một hôm, Tom ngồi trong phòng thu riêng của mình và bỗng thấy mình không thể hát được nữa. Điều đáng sợ hơn là tất cả các bác sĩ đều không giải thích được nguyên nhân tại sao anh bi mất giọng. Cuối cùng Tom tìm được một chuyên gia ở Philadenphia, ông đã giải thích cho anh rằng dây thần kinh điều khiển thanh quản bên trái bị liệt. Trải qua 2 lần phẫu thuật Tom phục hồi được thanh quản của mình nhưng các bác sĩ nói rằng anh sẽ phải học hát lại từ đầu. Tom đã phải tập lại với những chuyên viên về thanh quản và các giáo viên xướng âm như một ca sĩ mới vào nghề.

Bên cạnh cuộc chiến với cái thanh quản của mình, Tom cũng mất đi người mẹ của mình vào đầu năm 1990s. Những bất hạnh đó đã được Cinderella đề cập đến trong album thứ 4 của họ "Still Climbing" được phát hành năm 1994. Ngay cái tên album đã cho thấy CInderella vẫn quyết tâm vươn lên bất chấp những khó khăn. Và ca khúc "Through The Rain" trong album này có lẽ chính là những tâm sự của Tom với những bất hạnh mà anh gặp phải. Nhưng anh không hề đầu hàng số phận, thật xúc động khi nghe ca khúc này và biết được hoàn cảnh của Tom lúc bấy giờ. Mặc dù "Still Climbing" được một lượng lớn fan đón nhận, nó đã không được các hãng thu âm ủng hộ nữa do thời gian này các hãng thu âm đang dần từ bỏ pop metal để quay sang với Grunge .Ban nhạc sụp đổ và Tom bắt đàu tập trung theo đuổi sự nghiệp solo. Những năm tiếp theo Tom tập trungtheo đuổi thứ mà anh luôn yêu thích nhất, đó là sáng tác. Anh cộng tác với một số nhạc sĩ khác như Andy Griggs để cho ra album solo đầu tay của mình (dự tình phát hành vào năm 2005). Trong những năm đầu của thiên niên kỷ mới, Tom cũng tái hợp với các thành viên cũ của Cinderella và tham gia một số tour diễn ngắn trong mùa hè. Anh cũng bắt đầu xây dựng tổ ấm của mình với người vợ Savannah Snow (cũng là 1 nhạc sĩ) và đã có đứa con đầu lòng vào tháng 2 năm 2004.Trải qua 12 năm chiến đấu với cái thanh quản của mình, giờ đây Tom đã hoàn toàn phục hồi được giong hát của mình như xưa. Và đối với nhất nhiều rock fans, Tom vẫn là một trong những nghệ sĩ rock mà họ yêu thích nhất.
